A taste of MeshCore on an old TTGO LoRa32

MeshCore on an old, unsupported TTGO LoRa32 V1.0: building it from an open pull request, adding USB control, and what the Bulgarian mesh looked like.

Testing a #LoRaWAN node with a solar harvesting module. Sending temp and batt once every 5 min @ SF7. Node is placed near a north facing window, it is showing and completely overcast. 1800 lux measured by phone. Recording battery readouts, will post them in few days. #IoT
Considering doing OTAA once, storing the credentials and using ABP thereafter on my LoRaWAN projects e.g. battery change, reset etc. Rationale: OTAA requires good gateway->node reception, whereas in remote areas this might be hard to achieve. Does this violate some good practice?

Experimenting with WebUSB configuration of a SAMD21 based LoRaWAN node, PoC works very well so far. Will extend with all posible configurations, so just about anyone could customize the settings within a minute or so. Just plug in, configure and go!

Useful LoRaWAN airtime calculator; helps calculate the max daily transmissions per SF/payload size to comply with @thethingsntwrk fair access policy #IoT #TTN #LoRaWAN –> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QvcKsGeTTPpr9icj4XkKXq4r2zTc2j0gsHLrnplzM3I/edit#gid=0

The new #LoRaWAN antenna works pretty well, consistently receiving packets from a Moteino M0+RFM95 with a 82mm plain wire as antenna parked 13km away, SF10, -117dB RSSI. Got sporadic receipts from ~20km away

@thethingsntwrk console shows my #LoRaWAN gateway as offline, friends confirm the same with their gateways. Is it something local?

Finally a proper antenna for my @thethingsntwrk #LoRaWAN gateway.

#SAMD21 based Moteino M0 + rfm95 #LoRaWAN module + SPI flash sleep current around 12uA. Not great, not terrible. Wakes periodically to send data to The Things Network using LMIC Arduino library. #IoT Dropped to 8.5uA with "crystalless" option.. cool 🙂

Moteino M0 sending data to the @thethingsntwrk using RFM95 and LMIC library. Had to wire RST and DIO1 pins for full library compatibility. #IoT #LoRaWAN Battery powered 🙂

Wondering why @LowPowerLab Felix decided to use non-standard PCB thickness of 1.3mm on the Moteino M0, can't use a standard RPSMA connector

#3Dprinted an enclosure for a TTGO #ESP32 #LoRaWAN node, not a very good fit though.. will try alternatives

Just received a @LowPowerLab Moteino M0, will use it with the RFM95 #LoRaWAN module I tweeted earlier. Has the SAMD21 Cortex M0 uC, a good chance for me to learn more about these. #IoT

Received few RFM95 #LoRaWAN modules to experiment with #IoT

Ordered a 80cm 5.8dBi antenna for my @RAKwireless RAK2247 based #LoRaWAN gateway.

Moved my TTN #LoRaWAN gateway to the roof, should have much better coverage than indoors.

Drove around Sofia and suburbs with one of @boyannedkov #LoRaWAN GPS trackers, impressive coverage for a 20mW RFM95 transmitter. Managed to reach a gateway 32km away, practically no blind spots. External antenna, pictured below. #ttn #ttnmapper

Completed a 4 EUR #LoRaWAN gateway enclosure for outdoor use using PVC fittings. Apart from the aesthetical crime being committed, it is pretty cool. #IoT

Having an interesting discussion with @LowPowerLab's Felix on optimizing his RFM69 library for further power consumption savings, check it out here: https://lowpowerlab.com/forum/rf-range-antennas-rfm69-library/rfm69-driver-interrupt-based-wait-for-packetsent/

My TTN LoRaWAN gateway is up and running. Next steps are finding proper antenna and outdoor enclosure. #lorawan

Just ordered a @PiSupply LoRa Gateway HAT for Raspberry Pi (RAK 2247 based). Planning on using it for a @thethingsntwrk gateway. #IoT

Picking a free RF channel is fundamental for good link quality. Working on a RFM69 spectrum scanner that will suggest free channel upon pairing a wireless sensor with the gateway. The RSSI spectrum looks like this where I live (suburban), there is an obvious band to avoid:

Experimenting with Atmega328 OTA update over RFM69 wireless link, works fine. Remaining is to implement this+GUI on the TFT32 esp32-rfm69 gateway project, so it can reflash the relay actuators if needed.
Considering creating a new LoraWAN based product family, targeting industrial and agricultural IoT

Toying with an old project of mine, a RFM69 based keyfob. Added support for it to my DIY sliding door opener to act as a backup, when the Internet is down and I can't use the app on my phone
TO-DO: research project feasibility: swap the RFM69 for a LoRaWAN on my #ESP32 TFT project and use it as SIM-less urban car telemetry/location tracker

Toying with some funky touch GUI icons

Experimenting with #esp32 + #rfm69 to #MQTT #IoT gateway, works well

An internet connected smoke alarm module that retrofits into cheap detectors – dedicated hardware replacing my Funky-based DIY version.

Making good progress on RFM69 keyfob project, already planning for v2 PCB

Testing 433Mhz coiled spring antennas on rfm69

Needed to do quick and dirty PoC test using RFM69 on a breadboard,2mm pich adjusted to 2.54mm
