Note to self: refrain from system updating around the holiday season

In 2023, our 6.4kWp @Fronius PV system produced 7.05 MWh, fulfilling 60% of our electrical needs and saving us ~920 EUR. Our 7.68kWh BYD battery stored 1.83 MWh for later use and the OhmPilot diverter captured an extra 1.84 MWh, boosting our self-consumption by about 26%. #solar
Guess who ended with 6 stitches on their hand? A friendly reminder to handle those utility knives with care during the holiday season 😉 #UnpackingMishap

Getting rid of MelCloud in favor of ESP32 for full local control and home assistant integration for our Ecodan ASHP Using https://github.com/rbroker/ecodan-ha-local

No grid electricity for 9 out of the last 12 hours due to a snowstorm. Running my inverter in emergency power mode off the battery, topping it from the grid whenever it becomes briefly available. Solar production is close to zero, as panels are completely covered with snow. Good news, grid power is up, bad…

Interesting visualization of my 3D printer bed level using https://github.com/jneilliii/OctoPrint-BedLevelVisualizer/tree/master plugin for OctoPrint. Not bad, not great

Auto bed leveling kit and other goodies for my Creality Ender 3 v2 3D printer. Should have ordered these ages ago

My son just showed up at my office with this “thing”, supposedly world’s slowest EV. Thankfully, he didn’t buy it and just borrowed it for the day

Got one of these the other day, and have been labeling every single cable, pipe or device around the house since then 🙂 The house starts to look like a user’s manual.

Since I can't be bothered to learn SketchUp, I asked ChatGPT to create a Ruby script that produces a configurable U-channel object. It worked down to the millimeter from the first attempt..

Considering whether to buy the new Raspberry Pi 5.. who am I fooling, I know I'll end up getting it anyway. Resistance is futile

The Coral TPU is here, will add to my home assistant + Frigate tonight Setup complete. Only tricky part was to disable “protected mode “ for Frigate in order for it to recognize the TPU on my rPi4 running HASS OS 10.5; Currently running it on two cameras, CPU load is at 25-35%. Automations based…

Astronomical autumn starts today with a heat wave 🙂

I am not sure what this bug is, but it is huge and feeds on our flowers’ nectar

Stratification is clearly visible when heating the DHW with PV excess + electrical heating element instead of the heat pump. Might add a destratification pump to fully utilize the 300l volume, top reaches 80°C, the bottom remains at 30°C; This might also pose a legionella risk

Integrated IKEA’s DIRIGERA hub and few of their smart products in my home assistant setup. Oddly, there’s no native support for the hub, I had to register it as a HomeKit device. Anyway, all is working well now and automations are kicking in as expected

Ordered a Google Coral USB Edge TPU to use with Frigate NVR + home assistant. Seems quite overpriced, I hope it isn’t a disappointment

Checking the noise level on our Mitsubishi ASHP outdoor unit

Inverter and battery firmware update time..

Reduced the fluid flow rate in my ASHP running in cooling mode, for a healthier flow/return differential temperature. Seems to have worked, obvious COP increase is visible clearly:

In recent days, our heat pump's been battling outdoor temps up to 32-36°C in cooling mode. With an EER (think of it as cooling's COP) of 3.81, it's an efficiency superstar – and all this is running purely on solar power

Enjoying Greece for few days 🇬🇷

Relying less on the grid this month, as our own solar panels provided for 91% of our energy needs.
